Warsaw Chopin Airport Terminal A Guide

Chopin Airport is easy to find your way around once you know that everything is in one building. Terminal A holds the check-in halls, security, both airside zones, the railway station and the coach terminal, and every hotel on this site is measured from its doors. Below is the layout, and how the early-morning departure wave works.

One terminal, two halls

Terminal A is the older South Hall, with check-in zones A and B, joined to the North Hall, opened in 2008 with zones C, D and E. The two were merged into a single terminal, but the North Hall is still called Terminal 2 by some hotels and on some older signs; when the Airport Hotel Okęcie tells you to turn left towards Terminal 2 for its shuttle desk at Sector D, it means the North Hall’s departures level. Arrivals is the lower level, departures the upper, and the halls are open 24 hours.

Airside: Schengen and non-Schengen

After the central security checkpoint the airside area divides into a Schengen zone and a non-Schengen zone, separated by passport control and served by two piers. LOT’s hub operation means many passengers connect between the two; walking from the far end of one pier to the far end of the other takes 10 to 15 minutes through the central hall, so leave time for a transfer. Ground level: station, buses, coaches, taxis

The Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina railway station is under the terminal, signed from arrivals, with SKM lines S2 and S3 to the city and the Koleje Mazowieckie RL line to Modlin. City buses 175, 188, 148 and the night bus N32 stop on the arrivals forecourt, and there is a second stop on the departures level. The coach terminal is in front of the South Hall pier on the arrivals level next to the railway exit, with 21 stands. Where the hotel shuttles stop

The Airport Hotel Okęcie meets guests at its transfer desk on the departures level, first lane, Sector D. The Hampton by Hilton and Mercure will tell you their pick-up point when you book. The ibis Styles bus uses a car park about six minutes on foot from the terminal entrance. The early-morning wave

LOT’s short-haul schedule concentrates a large bank of departures between about 6:00 and 8:00 am, and because of the noise curfew the airport is almost silent before 5:30 am, so the terminal goes from empty to crowded quickly: check-in desks open around 4:00 am and the security lanes are fullest between 5:00 and 7:00 am. The airport sells Fast Track and a Comfort Pass that bundles it with a lounge. For those flights, what matters is a hotel measured in minutes on foot: the Courtyard by Marriott Warsaw Airport and Renaissance Warsaw Airport Hotel let you leave the room at 5:00 am and be at the desk by 5:10, and the Renaissance serves breakfast from 5:00 am. Facilities worth knowing

Free drinking-water fountains, a pharmacy, currency exchange, a post point, a parcel locker, an observation deck and a temporary-passport office are all in the terminal; a piano in the departures hall is free to play.
